The Antidote To Burnout
How's everyone doing out there?? I'm juggling a lot! Grad school, toddler momming, traveling to teach Spinning Babies® workshops. Life is very full.
One of the things I am grateful for, when it comes to teaching at hospitals across the country, is the ability to keep my finger on the pulse of where things are at in the birth world.
What I am hearing right now is that the birthworkers are tired. This is not new; people have been tired for awhile now. What I'm seeing now is a "tired, and..."
That is to say, people are ready to not just talk about wanting things to be different but to embody something different.
I'm feeling this reflected in myself as well. As an educator, I've done a lot of talking about changing our birth culture. And although I still do love talking about birth, I am finding that I want to spend more time in spaces that facilitate slowing down and forming a deeper connection. I found this in the mentorship cohort last Spring, I found it in practicing labor support skills with a group in Oregon last Summer, and I'm excited to find it in the retreat setting this Winter and beyond. As I move through my grad school program, I am considering how to support mental health for birthworkers. And I believe the antidote to the burnout, grief, and frustration of working in for profit health care systems lies to staying connected to our humanity and each other. After all, what is Birth all about, if not human connection?
Come to Hawai'i...
Join a community of birthworkers diving into the Spinning Babies® paradigm. Refine old skills and learn new techniques, troubleshoot challenges and collaborate on solutions--all while being nourished by homecooked meals and time on the land.
I price these retreats very fairly in order to remove financial barriers as much as possible. Early bird pricing ends October 15th.
These retreats sell out! Onsite lodging limited. See you there...
